I wasn’t always an avid reader, in fact it took me a long time to pick up a book I actualy wanted to read. Before I picked up the book that changed my life, which I’ll get to that in a minute, I had read a couple books at school, you know those that you were forced read, and anotate along the side of them for weekly grades. Yeah those, the ones that then seemed to be so boring but when you go back and read them years later you realize you had made a mistake of not paying attention in class. Although I wasn’t an avid reader before, I have always been an avid writer. From a short story of a cat named cat to a full on 300+ page novel many years later. I loved writing so much that it started to anger my parents. My mom would clean one part of the house and move on to the next and by the time she was back the floor would be covered in notbooks and pens with all sorts of writing in them. Sometimes that writing didn’t even make sense. My mom always had a bookshelf in our living room but if you were to ask me how many times I openeded one of those books I’d have to be honest and say none. That is until one day I laid eyes on a book with beautiful green letters going down the spine. I felt instantly intrigued by the book I opened it and began to read it. The first two words of the first chapter made a light turn on in my head ”Harry Potter“. When I read those words I regonized that name from kids around my class talking non-stop about this boy. I kept reading and within a day finished the book. It wasn’t till I really saw the spine that I realized I had made a mistake. On the top of the spine was a beautiful green number 3. At that moment I realized I had started the series with its 3rd installment. I looked over the books in our bookself to find books one and two but I never found them. A couple books down from where I had found the 3rd book was book 4. I walked up to my mom and begged her to buy me the first one, and eventually she did. 7 books and five sets of them later, I’ve grown an obsession with Harry Potter and the amazing world J.K. Rowling had created. After finishing all 7 books and watching every possible J.K. Rowling interview, sometimes more then once, I decided that the little boy who wrote stories about a cat named cat, wanted to become and author. I rumaged through our notebooks and found an empty one with pages ready to be written on. 7 years later and a 300+ page book I still look down at the document and thank J.K. Rowling for not only opening the world of book to me but inspiring me to write a book and one day become a published author.
